What is Periodontics?

Periodontics is the dental speciality that treats the inflammatory disease destroying the gums and the supporting structures around the teeth. A person practising this branch of dentistry is known as a periodontist.

Our periodontist will prevent, diagnose, and treat your periodontal conditions with the latest techniques. They have received three years of additional education in these areas and offer a wide range of treatments, such as root planning, scaling, and regenerative procedure. If necessary, they will perform surgery for severe gum disease. Additionally, they will also maintain and repair dental implants.

Common Periodontics Procedures

  • Flap Surgery: The surgeon makes a small cut in your gum to remove bacteria and tartar from your tooth and under the gums.
  • Bone Grafting: Our dentist might replace the damaged bone surrounding your tooth with a graft. It will prevent tooth loss.
  • Guided Tissue Regeneration: It places a small piece of material between bone and gum tissue to allow your bone to regrow.
  • Soft Tissue Graft: It helps restore some of the tissue you lost.

What Happens During The Periodontics Treatment?

Dr Pratik Modi will review your medical history and dental history. You need to communicate if you are taking any medications or undergoing any treatment, such as diabetes or heart disease or if you are pregnant.

We will examine your gums for gum line recession and bite to check if any of your teeth are loose. The dentist will further assess the health of your gums by placing a probe in the space between your teeth and gums to measure the depth of that space. X-rays might be needed to check the health of the bone below your gum line.

How Much Would It Take You To Recover?

Your recovery depends on how severe your disease is and the type of procedure you had. We recommend you follow the instructions given by our dentist. We will provide you with an antibiotic or a mount rinse after your treatment. We advise you to avoid smoking and eat soft food during recovery.

You may have some minor bleeding after the periodontal treatment. You will not be able to brush certain parts until they have healed. However, you will resume your daily activities a day after the procedure.

After the periodontal treatment, you can visit your general dentist for regular check-ups. We work closely with your general dentist to coordinate treatment plans and procedures. It allows us to have a smooth and convenient process.

What if I do not want to go for gum treatment?
